| Zoloft or Sertaline (generic name) is an antidepressant medication. Generic Zoloft is from group of drugs known as serotonin reuptake inhibitors i.e. SSRIs. It works by treating unbalanced chemicals present in the brain which may become the cause for depression and other stress related diseases.
Zoloft also treats patients suffering from panic, anxiety, obsessive compulsive symptoms, post traumatic stress disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder in adults over the age of 18. Children suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder and in the age group of 6-17 can be treated with this medication. Zoloft can also be used in treatment of other medical conditions not listed above.

Zoloft Sexual Side Effects
Apart from the above mentioned Zoloft Side Effects, you can also experience some allergic reactions. Immediately call for medical help, if you experience the following allergic reactions:-
- Skin rash or hives
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
Call your doctor immediately, if the following symptoms become bothersome:-
- Mood swings
- Anxiety, panic attacks, agitation, aggressiveness
- Insomnia, irritability, restlessness
- Suicidal thoughts or thoughts of hurting yourself

- Seizure
- Tremors, Shivering, Muscle Stiffness
- Imbalance or Lack of coordination
- Agitation, Sweating, Fast heartbeat.

- Being nervous, restless
- Drowsiness, dizziness, diarrhea, dry mouth
- Weakness
- Insomnia
- Nausea, change in appetite or weight
Zoloft Sexual Side Effects
- Low sex drive
- Impotence
- Unable to reach an orgasm
Zoloft and Alcohol
It is advised not to take alcohol while on Zoloft medication as it can make you feel drowsier. Do not take liquid form of Zoloft if you are taking Disulfiarm (Antabuse). It is learnt that liquid Zoloft can contain alcohol which can cause serious side effects with Disulfram.
Zoloft and Pregnancy
Since Zoloft is an SSRI antidepressant, it can have some serious and life-threatening side effects in newborn babies. One of the common issues witnessed in such cases is lung problems in babies whose mother had consumed Zoloft after conceiving.
Your depression might revert back to its prior phase if you stop taking Zoloft at the time of pregnancy. It is recommended to consult your doctor immediately, if you become pregnant during the course of this treatment. Talk to your doctor about the consequences of pregnancy with Zoloft. There is not much information available to support the theory of whether or not Zoloft passes through breast milk. It is advised not to breast feed your baby if your taking Zoloft unless recommended by your doctor.
Zoloft Withdrawal Symptom
DO NOT STOP taking Zoloft without consulting your doctor. Sudden withdrawal of Zoloft can cause some unwanted and serious side effects. Zoloft withdrawal symptoms can be observed in about 8 hrs from the missed dosage. These withdrawal effects can last up to 6-8 weeks. |
